Dear (Curv) Diary

Yesterday I was invited to speak at UWL and I may or may not have been grilled... 😅

Yesterday I was invited to speak to a room full of aspirational students at the University of West London, all looking to become entrepreneurs. It was awesome. And the warmth and excitement for Curv was tangible.

One question that stood out to me though was…

‘Why should I use Curv instead of Instagram or TikTok? What’s the difference..?’

Here are my thoughts…

1.

They know, in both black and white and in technicolour that the platforms they are running are leading to an epidemic of loneliness, depression and anxiety, and yet, they carry on. Why? Because it’s working. We all love them. It reminds me a little of the PR stunts of the 80’s attached to fossil fuel companies. They knew then what they were doing and are still reaping the rewards of climate breakdown. TikTok and co are playing the same game but with society. My point : where we spend our time is now the same as where we spend our money. We should choose wisely.

2.

There is a massive difference between building a community and gaining a following. And whilst we are early in our journey and the community-centred features we have planned (that are game-changers by the way!) don’t yet exist - that direction of travel is so, so worth your time. Do we have a lot less users. Obviously. Do we have a lot more bugs. Yes, 💯. But, are we foresting a feeling of community in a way that no other platform is touching? Absolutely.

3.

And this might sound a little crass, but because soon enough YOU will be the one that is financially rewarded. Not the stakeholders of some giant corporation. Our business model supports movements and their makers. Thats the whole point behind what we in the midst of creating…

What our Figma Designs look like as of today…

My lasting point

it’s in the very bones and infrastructure of Curv where you will find the biggest differences.

Can you post a picture of a puppy on IG? Yes, of course. And you might get some likes.

Can you post a picture of a puppy on Curv? Yes, of course. And you will do so as a part of Pets Space - a movement on Curv, set up by my sister, where all dog lovers can come together, not in search of likes, but in search of community.

Stick with us all. The future is bright if we can pull this off 🧡
